Let’s take a look at what the IELTS is. IELTS or International English Language Testing System is an internationally recognized language test for non-native English speakers who aspire to go overseas to work or pursue higher studies. The IELTS has two test formats: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The IELTS Academic is for testing your English language skills for training and academic studies while the IELTS General Training assesses your skills for daily English and social settings. The test is based on four segments which are writing, speaking, reading and listening.
Vocab for IELTS Academic & General Training Writing Tests
The writing section of the IELTS Academic Test has 2 tasks. In IELTS writing task 1, you will be given a graph or chart and you will be expected to describe, comment and summarize your ideas using your own sentences based on those visuals. In IELTS writing task 2, you will be writing an essay, contrasting, comparing or defending an idea.
In the writing part of IELTS General Training test, you will be given popular topics to reflect on. In IELTS General Training writing task 1, you will be asked to write an email or letter requesting for more information on a product or service. In the writing task 2, you are required to write an essay about a topic which could be personalized with your opinions with fewer restrictions.
Both IELTS writing tests lasts for 60 minutes and you will be answering 2 questions like we explained above. For the first writing task, word count will be 150 while for the second writing task it will be 250.
It is advised that you use a variety of words, synonyms, linking words, grammatically correct and meaningful sentences with a clear flow of ideas, all of which will contribute to your success in IELTS writing task 1 and 2.
